These images show that the blacks did all the jobs around the house for the whites. In the second picture a black maid is taking care of a white child, and in the book a black women named Janey also took care of a white child. The black lady in the picture has a sullen look on her face because instead of being at home taking care of her own children, she is taking care of her white boss's child.
ReplyDeleteI believe the first picture of the black man sweeping shows how the blacks were made for aiding the whites, with chores. It connect with what I read because in the story, it states,"Back at home in Johannesburg it was Rebecca, their maid, to whom Veronica confined." This shows that Rebecca was a maid to a white family. This image shows that the white woman can just sit their and boss the maid around. It seems like the black man feels tired, well the woman feels comforted. Whites didn't care for the blacks at the time this photo was taken.
